xii, 240 inc index, bibliography, frontis and 31 other b+w plates comprising 133 illustrations and 2 in text line drawings - Oman was at the time of writing this book, "Keeper of the Department of Metalwork, Victoria and Albert Museum". Part of Black's "Library of English Art" series. Oman takes the reader through the Middle Ages and Renaissance to the modern era with history of silver- and gold-smithing, also hallmarking, falsification and heraldic engraving. Textblock is immaculate except for foxing to page edges. DJ is price-clipped with some edgewear and rubbing, but generally very good.
