514pp plus 2-page publisher's catalogue - Undated but The University of Liverpool Library says 1886. Elizabeth Missing Sewell (yes Missing was her middle name) was born in 1815 in England and was an author of novels for children. According to the Oxford Companion to Children's Literature her writing stressed religious education and her writing style was somewhat akin to that of Charlotte M Yonge. She died in 1906. According to Bayard Tuckerman's A History of English Prose Fiction, "A curious form of the novel of purpose is that written in the interest of religious sects or special tenets, of which specimens may be found in the writings of Elizabeth M. Sewell, who advocated High Church doctrines."

Covers (brown cloth with gilt and black Arts & Crafts Movement titles and decor to front and sunned spine) is slightly soiled, edgeworn and has bumped corners. FEP is missing. Half title, title and and first leaf of text are detached but present with a child's pencilled notation, "tonn" to half title page. AEG.
