383pp - Undated but Cambridge University estimates 1860. Richardson's classic Epistolary Novel. It was Richardson's first novel and remains his most widely-read work. It laid the foundation for Richardson's status as one of the founding fathers of the modern novel. It's based on an allegedly true story of a young servant's resistance to her master's attempts to seduce her. Covers (violet cloth with black floral motif and title to front board and gilt title and black floral motif to spine) are faded and a bit edgeworn with bumped corners. FEP has prior owner's name inked to it. Textblock is tanned but otherwise clean and tight.
