389pp inc index, frontis (detail from "Derby Day") and 19 other sepia-toned illustrations - An expertly condensed/edited edition of the Victorian artist's three volumes of memoirs into one comprehensive and authoritative volume. William Powell Frith (1819 - 1909) was one of the group of young Royal Academy artists known as 'The Clique' and which included Richard Dadd, Augustus Egg, H N O'Neil, and John Phillip. He is probably best known for his historical vignettes. DJ (not price-clipped and now in protective sleeve) has some edgewear, is sunned to the spine and slightly darkened with age. Covers (red cloth with black facsimile of Frith's sig to front and black titles to spine) are immaculate. Textblock has inked previous owner's name and messy crossouts to FEP but otherwise immaculate.
