xxxviii, 223pp inc notes + 8pp publisher's catalogue - Undated but about mid 1880s.Spence's classic volume of anecdotes, observations, and character studies of books and men esp Alexander Pope, edited and introduced with notes by John Underhill. This very scarce (no other copies currently online) is nearly immaculate. Covers (decorated green cloth with coloured vignette and gilt and black decorated title block to front board and spine) are very lightly edgeworn and rubbed. AEG. Decorated EPs. Inked name to FEP. Textblock is clean and relatively tight.
