Pseudonym of Madame Effie (Adelaide) Maria Albanesi, nee Henderson, (1866-1938). Rowlands was the author of dozens of Six Penny (Dime) novels. This is but one example. "Between 1870 and 1920 many writers appeared in dime novels meant for women," according to Felicia L. Carr's American Women's Dime Novel Project's Website. "Some wrote specifically for dime novel and cheap fiction publication. Others were popular writers of the day whose work was reprinted in dime novels and cheap fiction libraries. This list concentrates on writers who worked primarily for the cheap fiction market and who achieved the greatest popularity with readers in series aimed at women." Covers (bright red cloth with blind-stamped titles and design to front and black titles to spine) is in near fine condition except for spine which is faded, edgeworn and split at front hinge and at top of rear hinge. Text block is clean and tight except for previous owner's inked name to FEP and age-darkened pages.
