719pp inc index - Undated, but "dedicatory epistle and preface" is dated 1896. - Howard called this his "work of a lifetime". In his preface, dedicating the book to "The Rev B S Chambers", Howard said it was his reading, 32+ years earlier, of Paine's The Age of Reason which set him on the course of studying religious/evolution theory and philosophy which eventually brought him to the conclusions espoused in this volume. Those studies included reading the works of Descartes, Spinoza, Kant, Herbert Spencer, Charles Darwin and others. Covers (burgundy cloth with blind-stamped borders to front and gilt titles to spine) has mild edgewear, and are worn at head and tail of spine. Text block is clean and tight except for partial rubber stamps on FPDP and FEP, pencilled and partially erased names on FPDP and partial split at FPDP and a couple of badly cut page edges at about page 380. A large and heavy volume which may require additional shipping cost.
