287pp - Although (Ralph) Hammond(-)Innes (1913 - 1998) (AKA Ralph Hammond) began his writing career in the late 1930s, it wasn't until the early 1950s that he achieved major success with such books as The Lonely Skier, Campbell's Kingdom, and The Wreck of the Mary Deare. In this one, Col Charles Whitaker has "gone native", ie, he has accepted Arab customs. Whitaker, one of the lead characters in this novel of politics, power and oil, is a power to be reconned with in the politics of various small states in the Middle East. But when his son enters the scene will it be for better or worse? Standard CBC cover style in very slightly soiled orange cloth with gilt titles in a scarlet oval to the spine. Textblock is immaculate, except for light soiling of page edges.
