16pp - One of the very collectable and scarce "Take Home Books" series from the 1950s and '60s. 1st ed. As Ed Finkelstein said, "A consultant is someone who takes your watch away to tell you what time it is." Fletcher, however, had a different take on consultants. He believed in them and their value. In this booklet, he tries to define what a consultant is and what benefits are to be accrued by consulting a consultant. He says, "The finest managment team cannot always solve, on its own, every succeeding problem as it arises..." Fletcher was widely experienced in industry including shop floor work in engineering. He went on to become head of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC) Economic and Research department and later still, its Production Department. he created the TUC's courses in production and management. In 1961, leaving the TUC he went to work for a management consultancy firm of which, by the time he wrote this booklet, he was Principal in the firm's Division of Industrial and Human Relations.
