16pp inc illustrations. One of the very collectable and scarce "Take Home Books" series from the 1950s and '60s. 1st ed. "We are all poets - at some time or other... As soon as we are overtaken by big feelings we begin to talk in an unusual way - our language becomes full of unusual phrases, ways of putting things, special emphasis, double meanings and live rhythms..." What's poetry all about and really about and how we find it everywhere in our daily lives. Holbrook was a poet and a teacher. He taught at Kings College Cambridge and his writing included books on children's games and on teaching English, as well as short stories. He is now emeritus fellow of Downing College, Cambridge and has published more than 40 works including The Quest for Love, Sex and Dehumanization, The Skeleton in the Wardrobe: the Phantasies of C. S. Lewis, and Dylan Thomas: the Code of the Night.
