744pp inc many b&w illustrations. 1st Ed. Publisher's bound volume of this up-market woman's magazine. The Lady's Realm was published from Nov 1896 through May 1915 (223 issues). This volume contains "More than 500" b&w illustrations, many photographic. Numerous short stories and articles, and is thoroughly indexed. Amongst the recurring columns is "The Cuisine" (6 articles with recipes) by "Mrs De Salis", who wrote several cookery books in the late 19th Century, and "Fashions, London and Paris" (6 articles with illustrations of the fashions of the day) by Mrs Eric Pritchard," a firm believer in the 'powers' of lady-like dress" and author of The Cult of the Chiffon and by Emily Glenton. Included are several articles by Mary Eliza Haweis (1849?-1898), née Joy, an artist and writer on art and decoration. She regularly contributed articles to The Lady's Realm, including one which is a profile of The Queen of Italy and another which is an essay on "What to Do with Our Daughters". In addition, Sarah A. Tooley authored a fairly thorough article on "The Women's Liberal Federation". An article on "Witty Women" was penned by Ada Prichard and included discussion of Fanny Burney, The Countess of Blessington, Georgina Duchess of Devonshire, and Lady Hester Stanhope. Then there are the society page columns, "The Temple of Hymen", by Herminia Eden. Another highlight of the volume is a lengthy article about "The Women's Liberal Federation" by Sarah A Tooley, a prolific writer on women's subjects including biographies of Florence Nightingale and queens Victoria and Alexandra. There is also a serialization of M.E. Braddon's novel 'In High Places' and a large number of short stories. And there are profiles of the aristocracy and of the "Prima Donnas of the Present Day". There are also articles on "Christmas: Customs, Decorations, Gifts" and on "Christmas Presents". The covers (burgundy leather with blind-stamped design and large embossed gilt titles to the front and spine) is in Good + condition with slight edgewear (esp to top and bottom of spine), bumped corners, sunned spine and a 3/4" closed tear at the top of the front hinge. AEG. Contents are clean and tight with only "defects" being a school prize certificate on the FPDP to "Gilian(?) J Eldridge for Arithmatic Session 1897-98" and five or six turned page corners.
