380pp inc Frontis. by Dudley Tennent and advertisements. Undated but apparently late 1910s or early '20s. Written in 1910 by the husband and wife team, it is one of several " stylish historical romances" they co-authored. He was "born in London to a wealthy family," according to the "Biography from World Authors 1900-1950" Copyright (c) by The H. W. Wilson Company.."His grandfather, Egerton Smith, was the founder of the Liverpool Mercury, a leading paper in which Castle inherited an interest. His father, Arthur Michael Castle, had in his youth been friends with Verdi, Donizetti, Rossini, Liszt, George Sand, Alexander Dumas, Robert Browning, and many other notable writers, artists, and musicians." Agnes (nee Sweetman, was sister of the novelist Francis Blundell. The covers (red cloth with blind stamped Nelson logo on the front and gilt titles to the spine) are soiled, slightly edgeworn and have bumped corners. Inside the pages are clean except for a couple with spotting and discoloured endpapers front and back. Cover is starting to separate at the rear inside.
