368pp inc colour frontispiece. Undated, but gift inscription is dated 1894. Beautiful and scarce early British edition of the classic tale cited as having done more to advance the anti-slavery (abolitionist) cause in pre-Civil War USA than almost anything else. Part of Nicholsons' "Two-Shilling Series". Cover is navy blue cloth with bevelled edges and blind-stamped decoration as well as titles on gilt background. Likewise on spine. Spine head and tail are bumped and slightly frayed, Very Slight edgewear and minor bumps to corners. Pages are mostly clean and tight except for a bit of foxing. End papers are decorated in a brown floral pattern against yellow background. Gift presentation certificate on FPDP dated May 1894.
