The authors described this book as "written with a view to providing a course in English Grammar and Composition suitable for use in secondary schools. It aims at explaining the fundamental rules of the language and making clear the difficulties which teachers of Latin and French experience in imparting a knowledge of their subjects to young boys..." The Grammar section is clean except for some tic marks throughout and an ink blot on bottom of pages 45 and 105. The Composition book is immaculte. The brown cloth cover (with black text to front and spine) is very slightly soiled, with minor edgewear to top and bottom of spine and minuscule bumps to corners, also a small circular damp mark on the front.
