16pp - "We are all being got at - to do, think or possess things that, if we were left to ourselves, we might not want to do, think or possess. How can we live our own lives, and not the lives the 'persuaders' would like us to live? How can we be ourselves?" Those are the questions this book tries to answer. Ford was an educationalist who directed the University of Sheffield's Institute of Educaiton and was the first head of school's broadcasting for Independent Television (ITV). He was also a respected literary critic author of an epic 7-volume Guide to English Literature which was in progress when he took the Head of Schools Television post. He lived into his 90s and died in 1998.
