16 -- One of the very collectable "Take Home Books" series from the 1950s and '60s. 1st ed. The history and workings of universities. Thistlethwaite was a Fellow and Steward of St John's College, Cambridge University at the time he wrote this booklet. His specialities were the history and institutions of the USA. During WWII, after graduating from Cambridge and the University of Minnesota, he was employed, first in New York and later in London, mobilising American support for the British war effort. He then went on to work in the War Cabinet Office. His next career move was into education at Cambridge and several institutions in the States. He wrote several books including The Great Experiment and The Anglo-American Connection. Thistlethwaite died in 2003.
