16pp - One of the very collectable "Take Home Books" series from the 1950s and '60s. 1st ed. "A society that relies as much as ours does on precise measurement, and the use of figures that goes with it, needs to know something about the way figures are collected, interpreted and used. Without making misleading generalisations about 'lies, damned lies, and statistics', we also need to be aware of the ways figures can be used to bamboozle and confuse -- especially when used in a scientific-sounding context...." At the time of writing this pamphlet Blackaby was a senior research officer at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research where he edited the National Institute Economic Review. A staunch campaigner for peace and against nuclear proliferation, he later became director of the Stockholm International Peace Institute.
