Samuel, Viscount Belief and Action: An Everyday Philosophy Pelican Books, London, 1939 First Thus, Mass Market Paperback, Very Good +, No Jacket
247pp. inc index plus seven-page publisher's catalogue - In this book Herbert Louis 1st Viscount Samuel (1870-1963) explores the ever, and fast, changing world around him as Britain prepared for WWII. In doing so he came up with a philosophy he hoped could help people through those dificult times. At the time he wrote this book, he was president of the British Institute of Philosophy. A British statesman and politician, he became an MP for the Liberal Party in 1902. He was postmaster general from 1910 - 16 and Home Secretary in 1916, losing his Parliamentary seat two years later. From 1920 - 25 he served as first British High Commissioner in Palestine and chairman of the royal commission of inquiry into the coal industry from 1925 - 26. He was created a peer in 1937. Book is surprisingly clean and tight considering its age. 005568 Price:
