4 Molesworth, Mrs. (Mary Louisa Stewart)
The Wood-Pigeons and Mary
Macmillan & Co, Ltd, London, 1901
First Edition, Decorative Cloth, Very Good -, No Jacket

Millar, H. R.,
192pp inc a b+w frontis and seven other illustrations by Millar - Molesworth (1839 - 1921), one of the most popular and well thought of writers for children at the end of the 19th Century. She was the author of some 100 books.including: "The Cuckoo Clock", "The Tapestry Room", "The Carved Lions" and dozens of other children’s books. Her stories "presented children with great sympathy and insight, showing both a deep understanding of childish problems and sorrows, and a lively appreciation of fun and mischief," according to the mrsmolesworth dot co dot uk site. Covers (orange cloth with black titles within a black cartouche formed from the images of birds to front board and gilt titles and a black picture of a bird to spine) are soiled with some edgewear and light bumps to corners and a small black blotch (possibly ink) to front board's cartouche. Front Paste Down page has a label on which "No 9" has been written in pencil. Page edges are slightly soiled and there is some soiling to a few pages including to the plate facing and the text on page 47. Textbblock is otherwise clean and tight. 5 Stewart, Mary
This Rough Magic
Companion Book Club, London, 1962
Book Club (BCE/BOMC), Cloth, Very Good +, No Jacket

255pp - Mary Stewart (Florence Elinor) was born in 1916 in the United Kingdom. Her novels have been bestsellers in many countries. Several of her books are set in Greece, a country she loves. This one tells the story of Lucy Waring, an out-of-work actress (one of millions I dare say), and is therefore under a lot of stress.

So perhaps a holiday to the Greek island of Corfu would help relax her. Ha! Not likely. While there several young men are killed, keeping Inspector Papadopoulos very busy indeed, and our heroine very stressed out. Ah well, maybe things will be calmer when she returns to Old Blightey.

Standard CBC cover style in burgundy cloth with gilt titles in a black oval to the spine. Textblock is immaculate, except for very light soiling of page edges.
