256pp inc - Includes stageplays for use by students adapted for classroom/formroom presentation from sources including: Geoffrey Chaucer, Hans Andersen, Norse Myth, Charles Dickens, Louisa May Alcott, Lewis Carroll, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Sir Walter Scott, and Shakespeare. Smith was also editor of "Plays Before Shakespeare" in this same series. This volume is Number 12 in Dent's 'The Kings Treasures of Literature' series (very similar to Dent's "Everyman's Library" series) edited by Sir A T Quiller Couch. Cover (navy blue cloth with blind stamped logo to front board and gilt titles and decor to spine) is slightly edgeworn and soiled, with bumped corners.Textblock is soiled and written in (mostly in pencil) at the prelim pages, with a couple of text pages also marked by pencil or pen (but not affecting text).

191pp - Undated, but The British Library estimates 1924. This extremely scarce volume (only two other copies online at this time) is a brief overview history of the dramatic theatre in England from the earliest religous dramas, such as the performance of "Ludus de Saint Katherina" at Dunstable in 1110 through to the plays of Christopher Marlowe. The texts of "The Pageant of Noah's Flood", "The Disobedient Child" by Thomas Ingelend, "Campaspe" by John Lyly and "Doctor Faustus" by Marlowe are included. A near Fine volume, the book (red cloth covers with blind-stamped vignette on front and gilt titles to spine) are unblemished except for a tiny rub at the bottom of the spine and very minor corner bumps. The text is clean and tight except for some yellowing from age.
