Our Feature Articles and Other Bits and Pieces

At Star Dot Star Books we provide articles about various authors, book collecting, book-buying and book-selling issues and other subjects we hope you'll find interesting.

For Example, J'accuse: To anyone who enjoys reading, to anyone who cherishes the arts, to anyone who loves doing research, there are only two mortal sins.

The first is book burning. And the second is censorship. Actually they're equally reprehensible.

1 Moore, Dorothea
Z House
Nisbet & Co Ltd, London, 1942
Reprint, Cloth, Very Good +, No Jacket

285pp plus two-page publisher's catalogue and Frontis - One of "The Champion Series". Undated but carried Printer's code indicating 1942. In her foreword, Moore admits that she'd oft been told "all self-respecting Principals of schools would promptly shut shop, if school-buildings were as inflammable, risks to life and limb as frequent, and tides as habitually high as they have been in certain school stories signed with my name." And so she promises "in this book... to picture more of the ordinary life of school." But alas and alack, "she has not quite got away from fire, flood, and buried treasure," according to one review of her work in a 1924 issue of The Times Literary Supplement. "It almost seems as if her heroine, a young house captain striving to restore order in a house that had fallen into bad ways, could not have succeeded in her task without these adventitious aids. This is a pity, for Zella's efforts and feelings are well described..."
The book (green cloth covers with black title and borders to front and spine) is immaculate except for prize certificate attached to FEP and some foxing mostly to prelims.
