Complete 3-Vol set: Vol I - xlviii, 471pp inc original tissue-protected frontis portrait of the author plus 8-page publisher's catalogue; Vol II - vii, 546pp plus 6-page publisher's catalogue; Vol III - iv, 540pp inc original tissue-protected frontis portrait of the author and index - The Complete Edition edited by his son Benjamin Disraeli, the British Prime Minister. According to Wikipedia, D'Israeli (1766 - 1848) was a British writer and scholar. He began his literary career at age 16 with some verses to Dr. Johnson. D'Israeli changed the spelling of his children's last name to make it less foreign-sounding. It was this work, "Curiosities" that made his name a virtual household name. It is "a collection of anecdotes about historical persons and events, unusual books, and the habits of book-collectors. The work was very popular and sold widely in the 19th century, going through many editions." Covers (brown cloth with blind-stamped decoration to front and rear boards and gilt titles to five-panelled spine) have bevelled edges and are slightly soiled and edgeworn and rubbed with bumped and worn corners. Vol I has a 3-inch split at the top of the front joint and a 1-inch split at the bottom of the rear joint. In addition the front and rear hinges are split but have been repaired. The textblock has black EPs which are soiled and have a few creases and the inked signature of "William M. James(?)/December 5th 1866" to the half-title page. Otherwise clean and tight. Vol II has a 1-inch split at the tops of the front and rear joints and a 1-inch split at the bottom of the rear joint and has some small chips at the top and bottom.
