Barrie, J. M. Original (carbon copy) Typescript of Courage: The Rectorial Address Delivered at St. Andrews University, May 23, 1922 1922 Unbound, Very Good,
27pp carbon copy of typescript - This is the carbon copy of the typescript, of a speech Barrie gave at St. Andrews University. The typescript consists of 27 double-spaced 7.75 x 10" pages entitled "The Rectorial Address Delivered at St. Andrews University, May 23, 1922/Courage/ by/ J.M.Barrie.". Barrie had been appointed lord rector of St Andrews University in 1919. The speech, which, according to Mrs Rachel M Hart, Archivist, Special Collections Department, St Andrews University Library and Information Services, was actually delivered on 3 May 1922. Mrs Hart also confirms that "the appearance of the type face, size of paper, method of attachment and style of document is typical of the period in which the lecture was given. There are a number of similar items within our collections from the 1920s." It was published later in 1922 by both Hodder & Stoughton and by Charles Scribner's Sons. This copy may have been made to be sent to one or the other of the publishers. Pages are held together by a pin through the top left corner. First and last pages have come detached but are present. Pages are edgeworn with some foxing throughout. PROVENANCE: Was part of the library of Dorothy Seward Walton (circa 1918, d. Sep 1980), a poet and author of "The Hidden Stream, a verse play based on the lives of Saints Serf and Mungo. She was also wife of the Professor of Botany at Glasgow University. Purchased at auction, Fellows & Sons, Birmingham, UK, 27 Sept, 2005. 004946 Price:

Barrie, J. M. The Little White Bird Hodder & Stoughton, London, First Edition (apparently), Buckram, Good, No Jacket
312pp - Apparently first edition of 1902. This is the book which includes the first appearance of Barrie's best-known creation, Peter Pan. The book was obviously well-loved and oft-read. Its black buckram bevelled-edged covers are rubbed and edgeworn to front and back. Unfortunately backstrip is missing with front and rear boards being weakly held in place integral ribbons. Inside hinges also a bit weak. All prelims are missing including the title pages, frontis and pages vii (and viii?) which is the second page of the Table of Contents (first page of contents is detached but present). Rest of textblock is apparently complete. TEG, other edges rough-cut. This was part of the library of Dorothy Seward Walton (circa 1918, d. Sep 1980), a poet and author of "The Hidden Stream, a verse play based on the lives of Saints Serf and Mungo. She was also wife of the Professor of Botany at Glasgow University. Her pencilled, surname in a somewhat juvenile script is at the top of the Table of Contents. Purchased at auction, Fellows & Sons, Birmingham, UK, 27 Sept, 2005. 004986 Price:
