144pp inc index, bibliography, nine b&w illustration and 2 maps - "The fact is that the United States has always had a foreign policy [contrary to the alleged remarks of Ambassador George Harvey] -- though not always a good one..." says Nevins in the first chapter of this brief look at the American foreign policy in the first half of the 20th Century.

Nevins (1890 - 1971) was a journalist who went on to become one of the most prolific U.S. historians of the 20th century. He won the Pulitzer prize twice for his biographies of Grover Cleveland (1932) and Hamilton Fish (1936). This volume was prepared for British readers and written at Oxford as part of the series "The World To-Day".

Covers (blue cloth with red titles to front and sunned spine) are soiled and edgeworn. Textblock is immaculate.
