605pp inc index, frontis portrait of Elizabeth and 19 other b&w plates - A biography of Elizabeth I and a history of the age which bears her name. Rowse (Alfred Leslie, 1903 - 1997) was, according to Wikipedia, a "prolific British historian. He is perhaps best known for his poetry about Cornwall and his work on Elizabethan England. He was also a Shakespearean scholar and biographer." Covers (orange cloth with gilt titles to front board and on a green label to the spine) and textblock are immaculate. All plates present (except where otherwise noted) and accounted for.

He is perhaps best known for his poetry about Cornwall and his work on Elizabethan England. He was also a Shakespearean scholar and biographer." In this work he writes about everything from "Mr Churchill and English History" to "Jonathan Swift" with "Seamen and Empire" and "Oxford in Wartime" in between. Covers (red cloth with bright gilt titles sunned spine) has very lightly bumped corners and slight fading to the upper half of the rear board. Textblock is clean and tight.
