viii, 104pp inc plus 8-page publisher's catalogue - This is Number 3 in "Methuen's Monographs on Physical Subjects" series. John Ashworth Ratcliffe, in 1960 became Director of the Radio Research Organization at Ditton Park, "The Home of Radio Research. E. V. Appleton, Sir E. V. (Edward Victor) Appleton, (1892 - 1965) was an English physicist and Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1947. Ratcliffe was one of his more well-known students, as was Charles Oatley. He is principaly known for Ionospheric Physics and the Appleton layer, and it is said (by Wikipedia for one) that he was the likely inspiration for the pseudonym "Victor Appleton", author of the "Tom Swift" series of novels.

Provenance - this book is from the library of H. W. Heckstall-Smith and has his name inked to fEP. DJ (not price-clipped) and book are clean and tight with slight edgewear to top of DJ and some foxing and dustiness to page edges throughout and prior-owner's name inked to FEP.
