Part I, "Introduction, Bibliography, the Elements A-Iw, and Maps", lv, 305pp inc corrigenda tipped in to ToC page and five fan-folded maps in pocket on inside rear cover and Part II, "The Elements Jafn-Ytri, Index and Maps", 417pp inc index, corrigenda tipped in to ToC page and four fan-folded maps in pocket on inside rear cover - Published for the English Place-Name Society (EPNS Vols. XXV and XXVI). The EPNS was founded in 1923 to carry out the Survey of English Place-Names. At the time of publication of these two volumes, "The survey of English place names has now covered nearly half the country and has made extensive contributions to our knowledge of early England." Smith was then Director of the Survey. Covers of both volumes (purple cloth with gilt titles to spine) have minuscule edgewear. DJs of both volumes (now in protective sleeve) have the top of the front flap cut but are not price-clipped (the price "35s. net" is at the bottom of the flap in each volume) are edgeworn, soiled and sunned at the spine. Text block of both volumes is immaculate except for prior owner's name and date (1957) inked to FEP. A large and heavy set which will require additional shipping cost.
